USCSS™ 2-Day Judge and CSD Workshop

Date: Saturday, June 17, 2017 and Sunday, June 18, 2017
Location: BowWowz Dog Sports LLC, 955 Wooten Road, Colorado Springs CO 80915


In this Workshop, approved and potential USCSS™ officials will delve into the details of what USCSS™ is, the construct of the Rules, how trials are run and how to set-up and officiate the various Classes and Games.  Furthermore, this Workshop will fulfill the requirement for all USCSS™ officials.  Those interested in competing at a USCSS™ trial or learning more about the organization will find this Workshop extremely worthwhile and will also receive tips on how to navigate the various Classes and Games!

Workshop Breakdown:
DAY 1 will compose of a lecture, discussion, question and answer session followed by offiials taking a written exam.

What is USCSS™ and what sets is apart
Rules and Requirements
Classic and Variable Trials
Setting up the Classes and Games
Judge, CSD and Competitor Tips for Classes and Games
Judge Requirements
CSD Requirements
Pitfalls to Avoid as an Official
How to Set the Tone for a Trial

DAY 2 will involve a brief discussion regarding hide placement following by running a "mock trial".  In the morning we will have a running of the Classic Classes (Interior, Exterior, Vehicles and Containers).  The afternoon we will will run three of the Game Classes offered at USCSS™ trials (Team Spirit, Go the Distance and LudicrouSpeed).   There is a 16 dog limit for each Class and Game.  Officials will be tasked with setting up and officiating each of the Classes and Games. 

Interested in becoming a USCSS™ Judge? Minimum requirements are: 1 year of experience in Scent Work, preferably has earned a NW2 title, is a Scent Work instructor or CNWI, is a Judge with one of the following organizations: NACSW, UKC, Performance Scent Dog or Barn Hunt.  Each application will be reviewed on an individual basis.  Please contact Dianna Santos at diannalsantos@gmail.com for an application. 

Interested in becoming a USCSS™ CSD? Chief Search Designers (CSDs) are crucial officials for a USCSS™ trial. Minimum requirements are: 1 year experience in Scent Work, preferably has earned a NW3, is a Scent Work instructor or CNWI, has CO experience, heavy preference given to those individuals who have experience training police, military, professional detection or search and rescue dogs.  Each application will be reviewed on an individual basis.  Please contact Dianna Santos at diannalsantos@gmail.com for an application.
