Kathy's training method is dog-friendly and family-friendly. She believes in fostering trust and respect between dogs and their families, not achieving "dominance." She also believes in rewarding the behavior you want, and managing your dog's environment to eliminate unwanted behaviors (such as limiting the dog's freedom when he isn't being supervised).

Kathy uses minimal corrections and believes that positive dog training is not necessarily permissive training. She is a clicker trainer for her own dogs, and strongly encourages clients to use clickers in her classes.

Kathy has been training dogs since 1992, starting with her rescued Golden Retriever mix, Robyn. She started instructing training classes in 1996 and has earned titles in agility, rally obedience, conformation, and earthdog with her two Cairn Terriers and two Border Terriers. She is also a volunteer foster for Cairn Terrier rescue and for Border Terrier rescue.

Conformation is what the dog appears to be.
Performance shows what the dog actually is."
